Her best advice for new students is to ‘have fun and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

While in support I thoroughly enjoyed the troubleshooting aspects, sharing my knowledge acquired with others and helping retailers get the solution they require while delivering the most effective service.

My biggest tip is: leap! It doesn’t matter what background you come from, or whether you have experience in the area (I had absolutely ZERO experience in glass). Coming from diverse and unrelated backgrounds can help as it allows you to approach the glass world with a fresh perspective and put your unique spin on it.

That same first-hand understanding of the difficulty of being away from family and making a new home helped her to find and then create a community.

‘The land is something I've always felt a connection with,’ she says. ‘I’ve always felt that we are responsible for the land that we live on. I'm only here for a short time and then I've got to pass it on to somebody else. I want to pass on the land in a better condition than I found it in. I think there's been enough pillaging of the earth, we need to take care of it and pass it on to the next generation in good condition.’

Timber is beautiful because of its uniqueness and solid timber is probably my favourite thing to work with because it's always different.
