The key soft skills I would stress are listening to understand and not to judge, working well with others and curiosity. It is always beneficial to have some work experience and as such internships are a valuable opportunity.

I find it extremely helpful in having part-time experience as a cashier dealing with a range of customers while studying in the university.

Polishing your English grammar and enhancing computer skills (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc) will add extra points regardless which job you are applying.
