It’s never a dull moment at MedGrocer and we unwind through some karaoke, food, and drinks, especially on Fridays!

5.30 AM

I wake up and probably spend a good 30 minutes just laying in bed contemplating when I’d actually get up. As a morning person, I use my mornings to do my hobbies and catch up on chores. After a few YouTube videos while tossing and turning in bed, I finally get up and bring out my Miya Himi gouache set (that obviously still needs some reactivating) to sneak in some painting. I wash some dishes and cook some eggs for breakfast as fuel for the day.

I couldn’t escape my teammate’s budol first thing in the morning and found my mixed berries drink topped with cream already on my table when I arrived. I usually walk a bit around our tables, cafe, and pantry before settling down to greet (a.k.a. annoy) the team. I check my calendar for the day and make sure my timeblocks are aligned with my priorities for the week. I sweep through my chats, which would usually include messages from employees asking for guidance on HR processes and requests from other departments, and emails, where I coordinate with venues, catering, and suppliers for events and facility maintenance. I respond to these messages, make a to-do list of concerns I need to resolve, and list the issues I need help with so I can escalate them to my supervisor and team.

10.00 AM

We have a daily 30-minute team stand-up to discuss priorities and concerns. This is time for us to ask questions and talk about how we can help each other on next steps. After our stand-up, I send some quick messages and list down additional tasks and endorsements. I then prepare some documents for disciplinary action cases and have my talks with employees as part of the investigation process.

1.00 PM

I take a quick bite of our subsidized office lunch and chat with my tablemates before heading out for a walk and some reading time. I like taking some time alone during the workday to help myself breathe and recharge. I buy one of my favorite drinks at the Korean grocery and read this book called Before the Coffee Gets Cold, which incorporates themes of family, relationships, longing, and magical realism.

2.00 PM

I have an internal meeting with a teammate for employee engagement and development efforts. We discuss upcoming events for both employees in our headquarters and medical staff in our partner clinics. We plan our next steps in addressing questions and concerns that are raised to us through chat, email, and our routine kumustahans. These next steps usually include directing employees to our available resources, sending a quick message to department heads, and coordinating with other HR subteams.

3.00 PM

I’d usually have a stand-up with our Facilities Assistants to discuss office maintenance and renovation timelines at this time, but since we have no construction works for the weekend, I instead check our updated thread of facility to-do’s in our group to make sure the team is on track with their tasks. I go on to one of my favorite parts of the week, which is to put on my noise-canceling headphones, go on deep focus mode, and work on automations. I’ve been working on a document generator to help me familiarize myself with the different automation modules and streamline other HR processes. Time quickly passes by and I list down all roadblocks so I can schedule time with my supervisor to help me fix these later on. When I’m not doing systems development, I usually review our training materials and develop one pagers with the help of our Design team.

5.00 PM

I check our lineup of new hires for the month and make sure their supervisors have prepared their training programs. I trigger and check evaluations for employees and monitor especially probationary employees’ performance to make sure they meet role expectations and are given the opportunities and support they need. I talk to their supervisors to coordinate improvement plan timelines and feedback sessions. At the end of the workday, I open my calendar and adjust it based on how long it actually took me to work on each task of the day and plot all pending ones.

It’s never a dull moment at MedGrocer and we unwind through some karaoke, food, and drinks, especially on Fridays! We have some savory chicken as members of the Pharma Group and IT and Design unit sing their hearts out to all the sawi songs. (I surprisingly have no more energy at this time and choose to just watch and cheer haha)

9.30 PM

I play a bit of guitar as I get back to my condo and just scroll through social media to unwind. I take a relaxing bath and get ready for bed. It’s another 1.5-2 hours of YouTube videos, Instagram stories and reels, and Spotify podcasts before I finally doze off.
