ESG solutions enable investors to develop and integrate responsible investing policies and practices, engage on responsible investment issues, and monitor portfolio company practices through screening solutions. It also provides climate data, analytics, and advisory services to help financial market participants understand, measure, and act on climate-related risks across all asset classes. In addition, ESG solutions cover corporate and country ESG research and ratings enabling its clients to identify material social and environmental risks and opportunities.

Position Overview:

Research Analyst – Energy & Extractives

We are looking for two new colleagues to join the Energy & Extractives research team in Manila within ISS ESG who will bring unique insights and expertise to a global team of analysts. This role primarily focuses on analyzing companies in the energy industry, reviewing the work of other analysts, writing research and collaborating with other teams (IT development, ESG product management, client success, sales) to deliver high-quality data and research to institutional investors globally.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct desktop research for ISS ESG's energy industry-focused responsible investment products. This mainly includes research into corporate involvement in specific activities such as coal mining, carbon reserves, oil sands, etc., based on public company materials (e.g. Annual Reports, sustainability reports, company websites), specialized publications, as well as dialogue with companies and other stakeholders
  • Produce insightful research reports and participate in peer review process to ensure research quality
  • Act as a go-to expert on key ESG topics within the energy industry both internally and externally
  • Deliver actionable knowledge on companies to investors by presenting research findings to clients and responding to client queries
  • Participate in and contribute to team processes focused on strengthening our ESG product offering and enhancing our methodology

Required Skills

  • Strong academic qualifications (bachelor level degree in environmental management, sustainability or climate science, economics, business and finance) with proven research and analysis skills
  • Previous experience or education related to the oil and gas, mining and/or utilities industry are highly desirable
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in English; additional language capabilities are an asset (especially Japanese and Korean)
  • Strong passion for ESG, responsible investment, and sustainability
  • Attention to detail and methodical approach to work
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work towards deadlines, manage tasks and prioritize
  • Self-motivation, eagerness to learn new knowledge and a desire to show initiative
  • Team player who can collaborate across a diverse global team
